Father's Day
Yes, I know I'm a little behind on posting this, but I wanted to post these pics of Brad's Father's Day gifts from Aiden and I. This is the first Father's Day where Aiden was an active participant--I can't let it go by without some sort of commemoration!
Aiden made his Daddy a colorful card. He was so proud of it, too. He couldn't wait to give it to his Daddy and wish him a "Happy Father's Day!" Brad was duly impressed by Aiden's artwork and it has earned a spot on his wall at work.
Aiden and I also worked together on a gift for Brad. A week before, I dressed Aiden in his Daddy's Army uniform and beret and took photos. At first, he wasn't too keen on the idea of dressing up. I put the uniform on him and he burst into tears, saying "I don't want to be a soldier!" He began crying inconsolably and asked me to take him inside and rock him in his old rocking chair (which has been sitting in storage in the nursery-to-be). We went inside and rocked, and after he finally calmed down, I asked him why he was upset. He repeated that he didn't want to be a soldier. I asked him why, and he said he didn't want to go to "Agastan." (Afghanistan) We've been praying for our soldiers in Afghanistan and around the world, and Aiden has somehow gotten it in his mind that soldiers go to those places, so he didn't want to be a soldier, because he didn't want to go away.
After a long talk, in which I explained to him that he'd just be dressing up, like when he wears his race car driver costume or his Batman cape and mask, he finally agreed to take the pictures--but I had to take pictures of him in his race car costume, too!! At this point, I was desperate to get the picture done, so we had a nice long photo shoot of several costumes in the front yard! Here's the final product:
