Where in the world did the Pack go?

To Disney World! Surprise!

3:30 AM Tuesday morning, we walked into Aiden’s room.

“Wake up, buddy, we’re going on a trip!”

“Huh?” he mumbled.

“We’re going on a trip!” I told him excitedly.

“I want to go back to bed!” he said, pulling the covers back over his head.

“Trust me, bud, you’re going to want to go on this trip,” I told him. “Daddy will carry you to the car, just go back to sleep.”

But, of course, he couldn’t. Once awake, he began peppering us with questions. “Where are we going?” he asked.

“It’s a surprise,” I replied.

Excited, he began playing I Spy and watching out the window, wondering where we were going.
Wen we arrived to the gates of DFW airport, I told him we we’re going to take a plane ride. He was instantly excited about the prospect of flying. I still wouldn’t tell him where we we’re going, but he was thrilled just by the idea of getting in an airplane. He was enthralled by the whole process: passing through the metal detectors at security, boarding the plane, eating snacks and drinking Sprite 30,000 feet above the ground. When we arrived in Memphis, TN, he kept asking if this was the surprise, and I told him we had still another flight to take.

What I didn’t tell him was that his grandparents, Scott and Livy, we’re in the airport waiting for him. When we “ran into them” at the terminal, he was thrilled. But he was even more excited once we informed him of our destination.

“Alright, Aiden, want to know where we’re going?” we asked.

“YEAH!” he replied.

“We’re going to Disney World, and Gran and Gramps are coming with us!”

His little mouth popped open in surprise, and he was soon dancing a little 'happy dance' in the airport terminal. We boarded our flight to Orlando, and for the next couple of hours, he watched movies and played video games, occasionally removing his headphones to ask a question about Disney World.

We arrived in Orlando about noon. Our driver picked us up, took us grocery shopping, then dropped us at our hotel, Shade of Green, the Armed Forces resort located on Disney property. This is our second time staying at Shades of Green, and once again, we were impressed by the lovely grounds, clean, spacious rooms, and free shuttle transportation to the parks, all for a VERY reasonable price.

After checking in, it was a quick nap, and then we stepped outside to the hallway to “run into” Aiden’s ‘girlfriend’ Stella, baby Vivian, and Jason and Emily, our very best friends who recently moved to Kentucky. Aiden was thrilled by the surprise reunion, instantly giving everyone hugs and dancing around the halls with glee with his buddy, Stella.

We headed downstairs and bought our tickets to the park, then it was off to Mangino’s, the hotel restaurant, for dinner and some catching up. The Foxes had brought Jason’s parents, Laura (a.k.a. “Granna”) and Steve, Emily’s mom, Jennifer (“Nan”), Emily’s grandma, Rose, and her cousin, Katie, so with our pack, there were a whopping 15 of us in our party. After dinner, it was back upstairs to prep for our first day in the parks and grab some much-needed sleep.
